Dr. George is a second-generation native Floridian born and raised in South Florida.  He pursued medical and oncology training at the University of Florida.  He is currently a tenured Professor of Medicine in the Division of Hematology and Oncology at the University of Florida.  Clinical research in gastrointestinal malignancies and early phase drug development are his primary academic interests with a focus on brining practice changing clinical trials and new therapies to cancer patients.

He is Co-Chair of the NRG Oncology (NCI) GI Cancer Committee and Chair of the NRG Colorectal Cancer subcommittee and serves as a voting member of the NCI GI Cancer Clinical Trials Steering Committee, as well as an ad hoc member of the NCI Pancreatic, Gastric, Hepatobiliary, Colon and Rectal-Anal Cancer Task Forces.  As the Director of the GI Oncology Program at the University of Florida, he helps oversee the treatment and clinical research opportunities for patients with GI malignancies.

As Director of the UF Health Cancer Center Experimental Therapeutics Group, he oversees the phase I program and integration of molecular and genomic profiling results with clinical trial eligibility.  He supports all cancer investigators and research programs through his role in strategic planning and cancer center operations as the UFHCC Deputy Director.
