Dr. George Simon currently serves as tenured Professor of Medicine at the University of South Florida and Senior Member of the Chemical Biology and Molecular Medicine Program at the H Lee Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, FL.

With more than 25 years of professional experience in Oncology, Dr. Simon previously (until 07/2020) served as a Professor in the Department of Thoracic, Head and Neck Medical Oncology within the Division of Cancer Medicine at the University of Texas, MD Anderson Cancer Center, in Houston TX (since 2012). Prior to working at MD Anderson, he served as an Associate Professor of medicine at the Hollings Cancer Center affiliated to the Medical University of South Carolina, in Charleston SC, from 2010 to 2012. At MUSC, Dr Simon also held the Burtschy Family Endowed Chair of Cancer Research and lead the Center of Excellence for Tobacco Related Malignancies. After graduating from his Hematology-Oncology fellowship at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver Co, Dr Simon worked as an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Thoracic Oncology Program and the Development Therapeutics Program at the H Lee Moffitt Cancer Center, in Tampa FL where he eventually got promoted to Associate Professor and served as the Director of Mesothelioma research.

Dr. Simon’s current research foci include development of novel cancer therapeutics and optimizing therapy by integrating Artificial Intelligence platforms in therapeutic decision making in oncology. Some of his research has been funded by the National Cancer Institute (R21, R01), Department of Defense grants and other institutional funding mechanisms. Dr. Simon was also a part of a team of physicians who competed successfully for a Lung Cancer SPORE (Specialized Programs of Research Excellence), a multi-investigator NCI grant.

Additionally, Dr. Simon served as a reviewer for several panels of the National Institutes of Health and the National Cancer Institute, Department of Defense and Veterans Administration Merit Review Board. Internationally, Dr. Simon have also served as a grant reviewer for the NICE, UK and for granting organizations in Ireland, Italy, and Australia. Previously, Dr. Simon served as a member of American College of Chest Physicians and National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) Lung Cancer guidelines panels. Currently, he holds two active United States Patents. He also serves in the scientific advisory board for several biotech companies developing novel Therapies.

A respected voice in the fields of Thoracic Malignancies and Developmental Therapeutics, Dr. Simon has authored and co-authored numerous articles in peer reviewed journals as well as numerous book chapters. Throughout his career, Dr, Simon has strived to make an impact in the field of cancer medicine through patient care, teaching, and research.
