$2.5 Million Expansion of Corporate Headquarters
Nation’s Largest Independent Oncology/Hematology Practice
Holds Groundbreaking Ceremony to Accommodate Growth
Fort Myers, FL – December 4, 2014 . . . . Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute (FCS), the largest independent medical oncology/hematology practice in the United States, announced a $2.5 million expansion of its corporate headquarters, located at 4371 Veronica S Shoemaker Blvd., Fort Myers, FL. The announcement was accompanied by a groundbreaking ceremony attended by FCS leaders and community officials, including Fort Myers Mayor Randy Henderson.
Recognized as the leading community oncology practice in Florida, the company will add 21,132 square feet in the two-story build out, due to be completed in 2015. Half of the new space will be used for administrative services; the other half will house an expanded Rx to Go program, FCS’ in-house specialty pharmacy for oral oncolytics.
Dr. William Harwin, Founder and President of FCS, said, “When we moved into the corporate headquarters in October 2006, this building seemed very large and spacious; now we are bursting at the seams with over 150 employees working here. Additionally, more space was needed to accommodate the growth of the Rx to Go program in recent years.”
FCS CEO Bradley Prechtl added, “This corporate expansion is another example of our commitment to serving and supporting our patients in communities, both large and small, throughout Florida. We know our physicians, nurses and staffs at our clinical locations provide world-class care for our patients, but it also takes a tremendous team effort from hundreds of dedicated non-clinical employees to serve our patients efficiently and with the highest quality of service. This expansion will help ensure that we continue to do so.”
The Rx to Go specialty oral oncology pharmacy, which is located at the FCS corporate offices, specializes in delivering newer oral oncology medications to patients throughout the state of Florida. This year, approximately 25% of all cancer drugs are available in pill form and demand for these types of newer medications is increasing rapidly.
Director of Pharmacy Ray Bailey credits the leadership of FCS for having the foresight to offer patients this invaluable service. Bailey said, “Rx to Go offers a tremendous advantage for our patients who are prescribed oral medications. Because we are a part of Florida Cancer Specialists, our pharmacists have immediate access to patient records and physicians; this enables us to provide faster, superior service. As more oral oncolytics are developed, we anticipate an even greater demand for Rx to Go, so the additional space provided by this corporate expansion couldn’t have come at a better time.”
