Florida Cancer Specialists’ Physician Named FLASCO President for Second Term

Dr. Michael Diaz Continues Leadership of Statewide Cancer Advocacy Organization

Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute (FCS) is pleased to announce that Michael Diaz, MD, who serves on the FCS Executive Board, has been named President of the Florida Society of Clinical Oncology (FLASCO) for a second consecutive term. The announcement was made during the organization’s Spring Conference and Annual Meeting, held April 8-9 in Orlando, FL. Known as the “Voice of Oncology in Florida,” FLASCO is regarded as one of the top state societies nationally and as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization is committed to facilitating and promoting multidisciplinary efforts to improve patient care in Florida. FLASCO also promotes excellence in care of patients afflicted with cancer and hematologic disorders and leads efforts to respond to policies and legislation that threaten to diazcompromise patient access to quality cancer care.

Dr. Diaz, who practices in two FCS offices in Pinellas County, said, “It is truly an honor to continue to serve this prestigious group. FLASCO has long been one of the premiere professional oncology organizations in the state and it has distinguished itself as a catalyst to develop partnerships, share knowledge, and bring together physicians, staff members and other professionals to demonstrate strength and determination as we move forward in the battle against cancer.”

Dr. Diaz has consistently been at the forefront of the issues and challenges that community oncology faces today and I have no doubt he will continue to bring the highest level of dedication to his role as FLASCO President.”
Dr. Diaz joined Florida Cancer Specialists in 2011 and currently serves on the Executive Board of Directors. In addition, he is a member of the Board of Directors for Community Oncology Alliance (COA), serving on the Payment Reform Task Force working to champion Medical Oncology Health Care Reform. Dr. Diaz is also an active Medical Missionary and has participated in numerous medical missions to Kingston, Jamaica.
