Practice Lends Support to Knock Out Blood Cancer
Tampa, FL – June 8, 2017… Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute (FCS) is pleased to announce that Physician Liaison Manager Maria Ramos-Person was named the 2017 Woman of the Year by the Suncoast Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). Maria raised more than $108,000 for LLS to help propel her to the Woman of the Year honor! Over the past ten weeks, 12 candidates participated in the Man & Woman of the Year (MWOY) campaign raising nearly $400,000.
“What a tremendous blessing to be named Woman of the Year” said Maria. “With such great support from FCS friends and colleagues, and my family and friends, we were able to move one round closer to knocking out blood cancers! Without the love, support and encouragement of my husband, Cory, and my two children, Cory Jr. and Adriana I could not have surpassed my goal. Special thanks to Florida Cancer Specialists’ Physicians and staff for all of their support and dedication to our patients. Also, I am thankful for my campaign managers, Sandy Brooks, Shelly Glenn and JoLynn Wright for all of their hard work and dedication. This campaign would not be possible without their dedication and enthusiasm.”
Over the past three years, Maria has served on several committees supporting Man & Woman of the Year candidates. She was honored to be nominated this year. Her commitment to LLS MWOY started with her mother’s cancer diagnosis.
FCS CEO Brad Prechtl praised Maria’s achievement, stating that it reflects the philanthropic spirit shared by many Florida Cancer Specialists physicians, clinicians and staff. “We support the LLS mission,” said Prechtl, “which helps patients with their co-pays, education and research, as well as improving the quality of life of patients and their families.”
Dr. William Harwin, Founder and President of FCS, added, “LLS supports research for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma treatments, which provide much-needed options to some 1.2 million patients in the U.S. who are either living with, or in remission from, some type of blood cancer. Florida Cancer Specialists is grateful to have the opportunity to participate in raising funds for an organization that is helping us get closer to a cure.”
Incoming Chair of the LLS Suncoast Chapter, 2017 Man & Woman of the Year Chair, 2014 Woman of the Year and Chief Marketing and Sales Officer of FCS Shelly Glenn added, “I am so proud of Maria for being awarded Woman of the Year 2017. From personal experience, I know how much work and dedication it takes during the ten-week campaign. This collective effort from all of candidates to raise nearly $400,000 for cancer research, patient services and educational awareness truly impacts our community.”
