Global Cardio-Oncology Summit 2018

Program Description

The purpose of this activity is to highlight the latest research, best practices, and clinical guidelines in the multidisciplinary field of Cardio-Oncology.  By bringing together oncologists, cardiologists, physicians, nurses, pharmacists, physiotherapists, translational scientists, and trainees from all disciplines who have an interest in the effects of cancer treatments on the heart, we aim to review the most recent literature and research on prevention, treatment and monitoring strategies in Cardio-Oncology as well as provide a forum for new research collaborations and networking.

Target Audience

The course is intended for physicians who have backgrounds primarily in cardiology and oncology, as well as allied health providers interested in cardiovascular issues facing cancer patients.  Targeted physician specialties are Internal Medicine (including IM Specialties). Targeted ABIM specialties are Adult Congenital Heart Disease, Advanced Heart Failure & Transplant Cardiology, Cardiovascular Disease, Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology, Geriatric Medicine, Hematology, Hospice & Palliative Medicine, Interventional Cardiology, and Medical Oncology.

Learning Objectives

As a result of participating in this CME activity, learners should be able to:

  • Identify the optimal cardiovascular disease screening methods before, during, and after cancer therapy.
  • Describe therapeutic options for effective long term cardiovascular disease management in cancer patients and survivors.
  • Examine how to develop consensus on best practices for cardiovascular care delivery in cancer patients.
  • Discuss recommendations for enhancement of cardio-oncology curricula and continuing education.
  • Identify strategies to improve collaboration between oncology and cardiology.
